Mumbai – Michael’s Birthday

Day 49 – MONDAY 9th March 2015

A short flight (and quarter hours) from Jaipur took us to Mumbai. Then it took us an hour and half to get the hotel from the airport! The traffic in Mumbai is really bad. At least the city looked quite clean and modern compared to all the other places we have been in India. We did not see any cows in the streets so the smell around the place was OK!

Our hotel is the Taj Mahal Palace (the site if terrorist attack in 2008).  Our room is on the 16th floor of the Tower attached to the old original hotel. The old part of the hotel (the Palace) is 111 years old and quite beautiful. See pictures below.

We had a good walk around the streets (that even had pavements!) near the hotel and saw many buildings that were built during the British rule. We felt quite safe and comfortable out in the streets compared with elsewhere.

  1. Hello dear friends. Well Michael, that is one birthday you will certainly remember, celebrating in Mumbai. Loved the photo of you and Lyn. The hotel looks quite beautiful as does the Police Academy. Wonderful to have stunning architectural reminders of their Historic past and of couRse you are in the epicentre of Bollywood!! Ah well another sunny day dawns ‘down under’ and I am thankful to say, not a cow in sight! Much love, Reece and Mick xoxo

  2. Happy Birthday Michael, as Reece mentioned one to remember. Great photo of the two of you. India certainly sounds and looks like a fascinating place with all its different styles of living and cultures, a bit of an eye opener compared to our style of living! Sri Lanka very much the same with cows still roaming or sitting in the middle of the streets and traffic chaotic, especially in Colombo. My brother-In-Law, Michael is there now for a school reunion. Are you staying at the Cinnamon Grand? Keep on enjoying looking forward to hearing all about it when you get back. Love Sony &Ernie oxox
